Along with the article below check out and enjoy this audio link on Marriage from the Rick and Bubba show as captured in Focus on the Family interview – Rick and Bubba on Marriage. Stay tuned for more to come from Rick and Bubba (and from others from time to time)

Malachi 2: 15 “Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit. And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring.[d] So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth.” (NIV)

I want to revisit the “20 Ways…” list to see if you’re tracking with us and more importantly to give you more ways that you can ‘be on your guard’ in intentionally making your marriage the best it can be! I love the way that the authors began with what was most important…discipleship, prayer, Bible study, time together…all included in the first five ways to improve your Christian marriage. So, if you’re new, make sure when you read this you check out our previous posting on this site and article and/or link to the article (http://elevateyourmarriage.com/20-ways-to-build-your-christian-marriage) and catch up and maybe even read ahead. Here are the next 5 ‘ways’ with brief comments. Let us know what you think and thanks as always for joining us and for your feedback on our blog page.

6. Read together – use your discretion and be spiritually discerning, but apart from a book with bad ‘stuff’, enjoy sharing a book together

7. Plan and follow through on daily talks – does wonders for your communication

8. Study together – small group, prayer group, couples study, etc. Growing together in the Lord’s Word will do as much for your marriage as anything you can do

9. Attend church together – what a blessing for you and for your children (if/when they enter the picture)

10. Plan time away – just the two of you! Even if it’s just a day or one night and day, it will greatly enhance our marriage and you children will benefit as well.

More to come as we’re just halfway through and I hope you’re not only learning, but participating, as that is what ‘intentionality’ means. Let me know what you think and God bless in Christ!

As promised, more great Benefits of Marriage in terms of the Family and for all involved – men, women and children. The family has certainly been proven to be the bedrock of society throughout time and history and as goes the family so goes the rest of a civilization. At the cornerstone of the family is the institution of Marriage and as goes marriage so goes the family. I will not insult your intelligence by specifically connecting the dots between marriage and a healthy culture, society or civilization! You can ‘do the logic’ and understand why it’s so important for marriage to be supported at every level of society. Just look at all the wonderful benefits for the Family summarized here from the Why Marriage Matters study (http://www.americanvalues.org/html/r-wmm.html) as well as what the studies found marriage to be and not to be with regard to relationships and family:

Marriage increases the likelihood that fathers and mother have good relationships with their children

Cohabitation is not the functional equivalent of marriage.

Growing up outside an intact marriage increases the likelihood that children will themselves divorce or become unwed parents.

Marriage is a virtually universal human institution.

Marriage, and a normative commitment to marriage, foster high-quality relationships between adults, as well as between parent and children.

Marriage has important biosocial consequences for adults and children.

How’s that for some pretty compelling evidence and benefits!?! Thanks again and we’ll be back soon with more great info on Marriage!
